And then has to deal with obnoxious headline misrepresentations.

Also, he drives a 911 RSR on the street.

It's because these headlines don't know the difference between a 911 RSR and a Lamborghini Aventador. It's just an "expensive car" to them.

Back into a Lambo, and you can get it fixed easily without much loss to yourself, or just buy a new one, so if you freak the fuck out you're being a prima donna over mistakes that we all make.

Back into a vintage RSR and you are aiding in the extinction of an entire species of vehicle that we all enjoy. He has every right to do it, if only to express to people who important it is that these cars are meant to be driven and appreciated, and treated like the rolling works of art that they are.

Yet another reason to like Jerry Seinfeld.

Not sure it matters what kind of car it is. If I saw someone bumbling towards my Passat I'd start doing the hey-watch-out! dance just as much. No one's going to just let it happen.

Well, there's a difference between "hey watch out" dance and verbal abuse. A 911 RSR, in my book, is grounds for teaching someone a less about respect and care.

With a VW Passat, your goal is to protect it and keep it from being damaged, not to teach lessons.

But how close is too close? I had somebody freak out at me a while ago because I got "too close" to his truck while parking. I was nowhere near it, and I knew what I was doing.

Frankly, unless the other driver was being phenomenally stupid (not beyond the bounds of possibility), I think that he was overreacting, and being a bit of a dick. As much as I appreciate the value of such a car, and like the fact that it's being used, if you're taking it out, something might happen to it.

Teaching a lesson is all well and good, but doing so by shouting angrily probably won't do any good. Sure, get their attention, but a quiet "Hey, this car is very precious to me, please don't hit it" would work far better than flying off the handle.

Having said that, I did witness my incredibly quiet and gentle father giving some kids the dressing-down of a lifetime after he caught them throwing stones at his freshly-restored Jaguar XK150, so I suppose that sometimes, the red mist just descends.

Never mind. I retract my dumb statement.

On the other hand, you can't just sit there and watch while some careless old lady plays bumper cars with your rare, expensive old Porsche.

I'd rather somebody takes the car out and gives others the chance to see it in the flesh, at the risk of verbally assaulting a fellow motorist that doesn't know how to park. The alternative is letting the car sit and rot in a garage, which is even worse.

Kudos to Jerry for standing up (ha!).

I have no idea what the statement was, but I like humility on the internet! Gold stars for you, good sir!

Is being yelled at by Seinfeld even really that horrible? I mean, the guy can't really sound angry even when he wants to, his voice just kind of raises to this high comedic pitch.

His collection is awesome. Who in their god damned mind would you park that on the street in regular traffic? I get nervous parking my boring DD next to other people.

Fair enough. Looks like there was more to it than initially reported – http://jalopnik.com/bmw-owner-hits… suggests that she actually hit the car. Yeah, I'd have flipped out in that situation, too.

It's definitely better to use a car, even a priceless rarity such as that, than to let it sit. But at the same time, people who are overly protective of their cars do annoy me. Getting mad about people actually hitting your car is entirely reasonable, but freaking out about someone just coming a bit close to it is a bit uncalled-for.

I concur. After reading the additional info, I'm 100% on Team Jerry here.

This made me think of a windy Kansas day a few years back. I had stopped at a local QuikTrip before my shift at GameStop to acquire my caffeine supply in preparation for disappointing customers with low trade prices when I noticed more receipts/McDonald's bags than usual strewn across the passenger side of my ZX2(first manual!) I propped my door open, quite carefully so not to ding the brand new white Silverado or whatever parked next to me. It was close, but no contact was made, so I set to work gathering my trash. The gusting wind bounced my door to and fro, but again, no contact. Then truck dude walked out and yelled "ARE YOU JUST GOING TO LET IT KEEP HITTING MY DOOR?!" Before I could utter a response, his wife came to my rescue. "It's not even touching it, Steve." Being the sharp- witted but respectful tyke I was, I stammered "YEAH STEVE" and got the hell outta that parking lot.

I think close enough in this case is the same block (or floor of a parking garage).
